Orthodontic Fact #8 Statistically speaking, over 1 million Americans over the age of 18 consult orthodontic clinics to help align their teeth

It’s a fact that going to the orthodontist and getting braces is no longer just for teenagers who seek to better their looks with straighter teeth. According to statistics, over one million Americans over the age of 18 have consulted with an orthodontic clinic to improve their smile. Here are three popular options adults with crooked teeth can choose from.

Traditional

For those who have extremely crooked teeth along with a major under or overbite, traditional metal braces might be the best option. Even though many adults want to avoid having a “metal mouth,” this might be the only choice for some.

Invisalign

For those who don’t want any metal in their mouths, invisalign is a popular choice. Not only do these provide a non-metal solution, they are also removable. Each tooth gets its own aligner that is worn about every two weeks before getting adjusted by the orthodontist.

Other benefits of invisalign include:

  • no brackets, bands, or wires
  • easier to keep up with oral health
  • clear aligners are nearly undetectable by the naked eye

Lingual

These types of braces are placed behind the teeth. While they are virtually undetectable and are a good cosmetic option, they are not recommended for those with small teeth. They are also not recommended for those with a severe overbite.
