Virtual Orthodontics: How DentalMonitoring Actually Works

At Nth Degree Orthodontics, we know life is busy: school drop-offs, football practice, work deadlines, and still finding time for a trip to the orthodontist can feel impossible!

That’s why we offer virtual orthodontic treatment through DentalMonitoring. This technology makes it easier than ever to keep your smile on track without rearranging your entire schedule.

Our goal? To give teens, adults, and busy parents in the Upstate of South Carolina personalized care that fits your life. Think of it as a virtual orthodontist in your pocket: you get expert guidance and personalized care from Dr. Nease, Dr. Thomas or Dr. Patrick, with fewer in-office visits.

So how does the DentalMonitoring app actually work? We’re going to break it all down.

TLDR: How DentalMonitoring Makes Your Orthodontic Treatment Experience Easier

  • You use the DentalMonitoring app and the ScanBox pro device to scan your smile and send in photos, allowing your orthodontist to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan remotely, if needed.
  • Virtual check-ins through DentalMonitoring technology reduce office visits, so you don’t have to adjust your lifestyle to transform your smile.
  • Dr. Nease, Dr. Thomas, and Dr. Patrick have 45+ years of experience providing top-of-the-line orthodontic care, and with DentalMonitoring, you get their full expertise in a way that actually fits your life.
  • Skip unnecessary appointments, send and receive messages to our team through the app, and enjoy virtual orthodontics tailored to your schedule.

What is DentalMonitoring virtual care in orthodontics?

DentalMonitoring is a newer orthodontic technology, so if you’re a parent who remembers braces from the days of goopy putty impressions, or you’re exploring orthodontics for the first time, you may be wondering how it works.

Let’s break it down:

DentalMonitoring  is a modern, ‘virtual orthodontics’ approach that allows our orthodontists to monitor your treatment progress remotely, giving you fewer in-office visits while still receiving attentive, personalized care.

Using the DentalMonitoring app and a small ScanBox device that attaches to your phone, you’ll periodically take quick photos of your smile from home. The images are securely sent to our team through the app, where Dr. Nease, Dr. Thomas, or Dr. Patrick can review your progress.

After each check-in, you’ll receive a message from our team with updates or guidance about your treatment. If everything looks great, you’ll simply continue tracking your progress through these virtual check-ins.

And if we notice something that needs attention, we’ll reach out and schedule a sooner office visit.

Because we can monitor your smile remotely, most patients only need to visit our office every 3 to 4 months for in-person appointments!

How DentalMonitoring Works: Step by Step

Getting Started with DentalMonitoring

When you start treatment with us, if you choose DentalMonitoring, we’ll set you up with the DentalMonitoring ScanBox device, and you’ll download the DentalMonitoring app on your phone.

The ScanBox includes a device that attaches to your phone while you scan your smile, as well as a cheek retractor that holds your cheeks back to reveal your smile.

We’ll walk you through every step of the process to ensure that you’re all set up and comfortable using the app and device before you leave our office! If you’re curious on what to expect, here’s how that set-up process will go:

1. Register your account through the app.

You can download the Dental Monitoring app through Google Play or the Apple app store, and create your personal account by providing some of your information. This app is secure and protects your privacy!

2. Set up the device and app.

Your orthodontist will tell you how frequently to complete virtual check-ins, and you’ll be prompted to complete your check-ins through the app when it’s time.

When it’s time to scan your smile, you’ll use the Dental Monitoring Scanbox Pro device. The app will guide you through each step of the process. It’s intuitive and easy to use!

You’ll open the app on your phone and attach your phone to the designated side of the box, then attach the cheek retractor to the other side of the box. Turn up the volume on your phone to hear the instructions.

3. Start your scan!

To take pictures of your smile, you can stand in front of a mirror to see how the app works until you’re comfortable using it.

With the cheek retractor in place, the app will tell you how to move the ScanBox around and when to open and close your mouth to capture all angles of your smile. It’s that simple. The app will tell you when your scan is complete.

4. Submit your scans.

The app will prompt you to review your pictures, and you’ll be able to retake any photos or angles if necessary. Then, you’ll send your scans to your orthodontist.

Complete Check-ins & Watch Your Progress!

Dental Monitoring’s AI technology makes it easy to perform regular scans, and the app will notify you when it’s time for a new scan.

More than just taking pictures, the app tracks your tooth movements in real-time, so you’ll get to view your smile progress and watch your teeth gradually align!

What Happens on Our End

The data captured during your scans is sent securely to our team at Nth Degree Orthodontics. Your orthodontist will carefully assess your progress, ensuring that your treatment plan is on track, or make changes to your treatment plan if needed.

You’ll be able to receive and send messages to our team through the app, asking any questions about your treatment and receiving guidance from wherever you are, whenever it’s most convenient for you to check the app.

You’ll only have to come into our East Spartanburg, West Spartanburg, Duncan, Gaffney, Union or Woodruff orthodontic offices when you absolutely need to!
