Apples are an all-around healthy food, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that they’re good for your teeth, too. Apples are mildly acidic, which helps them act as a gentle cleaning agent for your teeth; while they’re certainly no replacement for regular brushing and flossing, they can help whiten your smile when eaten skin and all.
If your child is wearing braces or Invisalign, they can still eat apples to help improve their smile, but they’ll have to use a little more care in doing so. Don’t let them bite into the whole apple with braces on – rather, cut up (and if they’re old enough, teach them how to cut up) the apple into smaller and more manageable slices. This will help maintain the brackets and ensure they don’t have to have anything readjusted (and it saves you a trip to the orthodontist in the process).
