Why should I feel confident about Invisalign?

Having straight teeth comes with several advantages: you can smile confidently and dazzle anyone you meet with your personality. A smile gives you the perfect tool for making first impressions. A great smile will open doors for you that nothing else would. At the end of the day, you will have an excellent job, and a dream partner. You will have a bonus of high self-esteem and self-confidence.

Unfortunately, some incidences in life make it difficult for everyone to own a straight smile. Injuries, poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease and aging leave some of your teeth crooked. This spoils your smile and out goes your influence, self-esteem, and confidence. The good news is that there are innovative dental treatments offered by orthodontics to straighten your teeth and regain your smile.

Braces

Braces have been the only solution to straightening misaligned teeth for decades until Invisalign came to the fore. Traditional braces came with pain, discomfort, and mouth sores. The braces used permanent braces fixed in place using metal brackets. This encouraged poor hygiene due to the inability to brush or floss around the braces. The result is plaque buildup and teeth discoloration, increasing the chances of teeth decay. It also makes eating difficult.

Invisalign

Invisalign has taken the dental industry by storm. It has provided a clear and removable alternative to traditional braces. The mode of operation is no different from braces, but there are subtle differences in the way the technique produces results. Just like regular braces, this procedure exerts sustained pressure to your teeth for a certain period until the teeth are in the required position.

The Procedure

It can seem as though your teeth are fairly well fixed in your jaw, but they can move around in the jaw. It only needs a small amount of pressure applied consistently over time. When you visit the orthodontic office, the first step is to take a detailed scan of your teeth. This is in preparation for the procedure. The scan is fed into a computer so that the expert can calculate how far your teeth need to be pushed to get into the desired position.

The extent of movement will determine how many sets of aligners you need to push your teeth into place. This is calculated by the computer. The results are a series of aligners that you will change after every two weeks during the whole process of treatment.

Over several months, the aligners will exert controlled pressure on the teeth to move the teeth into their new location and the ideal orientation. The movement follows a computer-generated course that involves incremental stages. This means that the result of this procedure is known precisely by the orthodontist.

What does this mean?

Even before the start of the procedure, you are guaranteed of the results. You will know in advance what to expect from the orthodontic office.  Once the scan is complete, the orthodontist sends them to a dental lab whereby the series of clear aligners are made. These aligners are custom made to fit your jaws. The aligners are small trays made from soft plastic to fit your jawline. These aligners gently push your teeth into the new position. These trays don’t require routine tightening since they don’t use metal wires. The trays exert the force required for two weeks until a new set is fitted.

Each set in the series comes to push your teeth into a better position. After each set, your teeth will have moved to a new position. The new set of aligners will push it further.

The whole treatment takes a total of around six months. However, this will depend on the extent of the work to be done. You can get more info by checking out the braces FAQ.

Why Invisalign?

Here are reasons to consider this procedure:

Discreet

Fitting traditional braces on children is no problem since it is normal, but wearing the braces as adults or as a teenager is embarrassing. This is why it is suitable for these two groups.  The need for a custom method for teenagers has led to the development of Invisalign Teen, which is customized to the needs of teenagers. Invisalign teen takes care of the still growing tissues of teens to align teeth properly.  The aligners are made from soft, clear plastic that isn’t easily visible to others. You can wear the aligners without fear that someone will notice them.

Removable

This is one quality of clear aligners that makes them appeal to a wider audience. This aspect brings several benefits to the user:
• You can remove the aligner when you are eating. This allows you to enjoy your food. You also avoid the inconvenience of food sticking in metal brackets, which can lead to tooth decay.
• You can now maintain proper oral hygiene. You can remove the aligners when brushing and flossing.
• You don’t have to stick to a special diet.

This means you can continue with your normal life despite wearing aligners.
