“Skipping Inner Tooth Surfaces”
One of the worst tooth brushing mistakes that people wearing braces make is skipping their inner tooth surfaces, leading to a buildup of plaque in difficult to reach places. It is important that every part of a tooth is brushed thoroughly to remove debris to prevent cavities and halitosis. While it may require more time to provide oral health care, standing in front of a mirror while brushing teeth can help with making sure every surface is covered with fluoridated toothpaste. Many patients do not understand that flossing their teeth at least once a day is also necessary to avoid gingivitis.
Traditional and Modern Braces
An orthodontic office offers a variety of different types of braces to patients to meet their needs. After a physical examination and three-dimensional imaging test, an orthodontist will recommend braces that include:
• Invisalign
• Damon System
• Metallic Braces
The recommendation for a particular type of braces depends on a patient’s malocclusions and age. Invisalign removable aligners are not recommended for young children but are appropriate for many teenagers and adults with small gaps or misalignment that requires a year or less to repair. Patients with more serious malocclusions need to wear traditional metallic or Damon System braces for a longer amount of time.
