Announcing the 8 Recipients of the 2018 Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontic Scholarship

PRESS RELEASE: Spartanburg, SC – Oral health and overall human health are closely related. While dentists and orthodontists are focused on oral care, there is also an awareness of how overall health and oral care affect each other.  As our population ages, the need for healthcare professionals will greatly increase over the next 10 years. Therefore, there is a need to pay greater attention to the training of healthcare professionals in a bid to enhance the quality of services provided to clients. To address this issue, the team of professional dental care specialists at Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontics have established the Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontics Health Science Scholarship to assist qualified students with their education in a bid to assist and promote the future of healthcare.

The team of dental professionals at Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontics, along with assistance from the guidance counselors at local high schools, have selected eight recipients of this year’s awards. The recipients of the 2018 Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontic Scholarship are: Kacie Tobias – Dorman High School; Lindsay Morrow – Woodruff High School; Brian Linder – Broome High School; Erica Fisher – Chapman High School; Vaidikkumar Patel – Gaffney High School; Bradleigh Mills – Boiling Springs High School; Albany Kelly – Byrnes High School; and Teresa Mok – Spartanburg High School.

One of the orthodontists at Nease and Higginbotham Orthodontics is Dr. Eric Nease.  As the recipient of a similar scholarship when he was a senior in high school, he understands the importance and value of such awards.  When asked about his thoughts on the award, he said, “I received the Newport Family Practice Health Science Scholarship when I graduated from Cocke County High School in Newport, TN in 1988.  That scholarship not only gave me a needed financial boost to pay for college, but also instilled confidence that there were people in the world interested in my success besides my family.” Dr. Phil Higginbotham, the founder of Nease & Higginbotham Orthodontics, initiated the scholarship program in the early 1990’s. When asked why he initiated the program, he said, “As someone who has always valued education, I wanted to start a scholarship program to give back to the schools. Orthodontics has given so much to me, and I wanted to give something back.”
